Dear IAPE family:

We are about to finish a wonderful and amazing year. We all have lived together this incredible adventure,  and the magic you are creating in your classrooms will be shining along with the Christmas season... I really hope all your wishes come true. This message is, of course, to say hi and Thank you, but also to introduce a new family member... it's name is Harry and became part of our family since yesterday.

I send you all my best!

#2325 Micrologue

Posted by Daniela Olea Ibarra on 07 September 2014 - 10:09 PM

Hi you all, I want to share two micrologues I´m working with this week.

5th grade: this month is about classified ads and situations people may be found in, so they need different products or services that are being advertised.

6th grade: this month is about commercial transactions, differents stores and items you can buy there.

So I created two simple stories for the micrologues, related to the topic and I think they both complement the unit´s content well. They are simple because I´ve never worked with this groups I think is a good way to see their skills and start up a good class.

#2555 Iape Rocking Around December - Thanksgiving Reflections

Posted by Jim Citron on 27 November 2014 - 11:29 AM

Dearest IAPE-añeros,

I am writing to you from my parents' house in Massachusetts.

This past Saturday, I returned to the US after nearly 3 months in Mexico, just in time for our Thanksgiving holiday in the US.

For more than thirty years, Thanksgiving has been my favorite US holiday. (For the first several years of my life, that honor was reserved for my birthday, but as the years have gone by, the novelty of turning a year older has begun to wear off and my perspective has changed just a bit.)

Thanksgiving is a time for everyone in the US -- no matter their religion -- to come together with friends, family, and/or loved ones to reflect on the past year and what we are thankful for. It is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Friday is a school holiday, so we have a four-day weekend (or "puente" as you would say in Spanish), making the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after Thanksgiving the busiest travel days of the year in the US.

For the past seven years, IAPE has neared the top of my list of things I give thanks for on this special day. The opportunity to meet, collaborate with, and be inspired by such incredibly committed and passionate people on a daily basis is a dream come true. Thank you all for being part of this dream, this family, this magic!

Along that note, we invite you to watch the IAPE Forum throughout December for a year-end discussion forum called "IAPE ROCKIN' AROUND December" with frequent contributions from the IAPE Team. Here you'll find reflections, memories, thoughts, stories, photos, and other surprises. We look forward to closing out 2015 by sharing a touch of pre-holiday magic with you.

As always, if you have any trouble accessing the IAPE Forum, please contact Leslie Alvarado at Leslie.C.Alvarado@Dartmouth.edu.

With heartfelt thanks to you all,

Jim Citron

#3486 2A. Etapa: Elaboración De Expediente De Evidencias De Aprendizaje (Básica)

Posted by Ana Laura Arenas on 08 September 2015 - 10:01 AM

Heart to heart, no crusts!

and I am sure we will succeed in the face of this new challenge!

Ana Laura Arenas Aguirre.

#3439 Idoneidad Y Criterios En Los Exámenes Nacionales

Posted by Hugo Maldonado Figueroa on 31 August 2015 - 03:53 PM

Resultado no idóneo:

#3582 Comic Strip

Posted by Daniela Olea Ibarra on 06 October 2015 - 03:32 AM

HI EVERYBODY!

I just got to London, where I will be teaching spanish in a state school, I am pretty excited. Yesterday was my first day so I just pop in the classroom and saw what they normally do in spanish class. In 4th, 5th and 6th grade they are reviewing greetings and farewell, they actually have to present something for the writing assessment part. So I am going to try comic strips for next week and I was thinking about having giving them some comicstrips of kids at school on the first day of class so they can use their imagination and fill in the bubbles with the things they already know....  Ill keep you posted :)!!!!!!

#3482 Cenni Certification

Posted by Hilda Rodriguez Vazquez on 05 September 2015 - 10:17 PM

Teaching Evaluation for Foreign Language Teachers at the High School Level

For the evaluation of teachers who teach additional language to Spanish, stages 1, 2 and 4 will be applied.  Stage 1 consists on the report of your teaching performance that your school principal will do. Stage 2 consists on the gathering of 2 evidences of work of an above grade level student, 2 evidences of work of a below grade level student and 2 evidences of your own designed teaching material. These evidences are uploaded to the platform once you have your username and password and you will have to elaborate on them following the prompts they give you. Stage 4 consists on the planning of a lesson, which can be skipped if you have the CERTIDEMS diploma.

To cover stage 3, you will have to present the documents that certify your proficiency level in the four skills, from a teaching or certifying institution recognized by DGAIR office from SEP.  When you register for your evaluation, you will have to show evidence that you have already started with the certification process in CENNI on the webpage from DGAIR office from SEP, with the compromise to hand it in upon reception.

You will see below the CENNI guide link, where you will find information on the evaluating places and more information that will be useful to start with the certification process.

I recommend you that you start looking for the testing options because not all the types of exams are available all year or in all the states.Let me tell you that I already booked my appointment to take the TOEFL IBT at Tec de Monterrey here in Aguascalientes. I will be taking it on September 26.  I booked it on line through the ITS webpage and it cost $175 dollars.  I looked for some other testing options and the price range was the same.

I wish you success on this new challenge, don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, I know I’m not an expert but since we are all on the same boat, we can help each other.

Greetings to my  IAPE family,

XOXO

Hilda Rodríguez J

#3403 Welcome To The Series Of Supporting Topics

Posted by Hugo Maldonado Figueroa on 27 August 2015 - 05:15 PM

Dear IAPEañeros:

Welcome to the series of posts devoted to SEP-National Evaluation for in-service teachers (and some prospective ones). As some of you requested, we have gathered / selected the topics to discuss on our Forum for the coming weeks.

From August 28 to September 11, several Master Teachers, Assistant Teachers and Advanced Trainers will lead conversations in various topics. We gathered information from official sources (SEP, INEE, Sistema Nacional de Registro del Servicio Profesional Docente websites, etc.) and from recent personal experiences in this evaluation process.   We know that SEP has published study guides, sent links and informed teachers by posting threads on their main page. INEE and Sistema Nacional de Registro del Servicio Profesional Docente have also published brochures and guides that come handy. We will respect their privacy policies by not disclosing information that might affect validity to the process, but we certainly will elaborate on the cues that are given.
Our Forum has an English-only policy (as all our programs do). However, considering the material and the sensitive-case type of information you may encounter, we agreed on having this series of conversations featured in Spanish, too. There will be four major posts. The first three will be found in Spanish. The last post will be done in English.   Our team wishes to provide accurate and useful assistance in your process of assessment. Let us hear your voice and help each other during this necessary process. Let us keep inspiration soaring. All the best! -Hugo

#3073 Ideograms

Posted by Ana Laura Arenas on 28 May 2015 - 09:32 PM

Hi dear Iapañeros!

For this coming month, let's remember how Ideograms work, shall we?

First, create a 3 x 4 grid (modify as needed). Then, within the top row, write the tenses you wish to practice.  Next, place visuals or picture representations of verbs inside the columns. After that, indicate the personal pronoun who you want to be the subject of a sentence and finally, indicate a verb from the columns.

The objective of the activity is to have students quickly create a sentence using the person and verb indicated. You can also add an extra column to ask students to create questions, negative or other forms.

It's a great activity to have students practice some grammar and have fun at the same time.

Try it and share your experience, photos or ideas!

Have a wonderful June!

Hugs from Xalapa

#2993 Chat With Joel Goldfield (Tuesday , April 28Th)

Posted by K. Melissa Hernández Trejo on 28 April 2015 - 06:42 PM

I want to share about my dissertation. It is called ““Using the Rassias® Method in the L2 classroom to develop speaking communication skills with undergraduate students”.

I made an intervention of three weeks with a group of students and in every class I used drills and some Rassias Techniques. The topic was food and throughout this time, my students learnt vocabulary about food and through Backwards build-up drill they learnt the dialogues of how to buy something at the grocery store and how to ask for food at a Restaurant.

At the end of the three weeks, I evaluate by taking my students to a real store and one of my colleagues was the clerk and my students had to buy something from there. I did the same for the restaurant, in the cafeteria of the University, one teacher was the waiter and the students had to ask for food and then exchange roles and be waiters. I used the rubric that I mention in my earlier post to evaluate their performance.

#2926 Alphabetization

Posted by Daniela Olea Ibarra on 12 April 2015 - 07:22 PM

I LOVE THIS...

Steps:

First you ask for two volunteers and tell them a scenario (IN SECRET)...

They need to act it out by saying the alpabeth in order... (NO MORE THAN THREE LETTERS AT THE TIME).

Remember they need to act feelings, emotions, do mimics and use strees in order to show and let the other students know what on earth they are talking about:)

The rest of the class need to guess or try to figure out the scenerio they were given to act out.

This is a great technique to introduce to a new topic... For example in 5th grade for this months we are reviewing travelogues, so the scenario for alphabetization on the first class could be a tourist asking for directions, or two friends planning a trip.

Have Fun with the technique :)
